The role of women and gender policies in addressing the military conflict in Ukraine

The IAI - Istituto Affari Internazionali (Institute of International Affairs) of Rome and the Democracy Development Centre of Kiev collaborated at the organization of a workshop focusing on “The role of women and gender policies in addressing the military conflict in Ukraine". The initiative was funded by the NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme in the broader framework of the implementation of NATO’s Policy on Women, Peace and Security.

Biography

Luca Barana is a senior fellow at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI). His current research at IAI focuses on relationships between Europe and the United States, political dynamics in Europe, EU’s migration policies and the role of migration in EU's external action and Italy's foreign policy. In the past, he has studied EU’s relations with Africa and the role of regional integration and multilateral governance in the African continent. He manages IAI’s relations with public and private stakeholders in Turin. After graduating in European Studies at the University of Studies of Turin, he has been Junior Visiting Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (London/Turin) and Program Manager at the Centre for African Studies in Turin. He has been Coordinator of the Task Force 10 on Migration of the T20-Italy (2021). He has edited the volume Moving towards Europe, which analyses migratory drivers and fragmented EU-bound migratory trajectories in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
