In recent years, the Institute has worked on 100 projects each year, and organised more than 100 conferences and seminars per year, both in Italy and abroad.

All projects are carried out in cooperation with other Italian or foreign institutes, or within the context of research networks with a broad geographical range (European, regional, transatlantic and global).

The IAI currently takes part in over a dozen international networks ranging cross various sectors of research: global governance, the new international order, security, European policy and – geographically – China, India, the Mediterranean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

An increasing number of activities are carried out in conjunction with international institutions. In addition to the European Commission, the IAI has strengthened links with NATO, EEAS, ESA, EDA, OSCE and the European Parliament.

Collaboration with national institutions is also intensive and continuous. In particular, each year the Institute launches a dozen or so joint undertakings with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. There are also important collaborative undertakings with various other ministries, the Bank of Italy and the Parliament.
