Focus euroatlantico n. 8 (febbraio-maggio 2025)

20/05/2025

The second Euro-Atlantic Focus of 2025 opens, as usual, with an analysis of the state of transatlantic relations (accompanied by a series of graphs). Luca Barana reflects on how the transatlantic relationship has entered a crisis after Donald Trump took office. American foreign policy, marked by unilateralism and protectionism, has undermined the foundations of the transatlantic relationship. In the section on US domestic politics, Riccardo Alcaro reviews the first hundred days of the second Trump Administration. From foreign policy to tariffs, from migration to government management, the action has been frenetic, radical and disruptive. In the special essay, Alessandro Marrone highlights the implications for European defence of the Trump presidency, looking in particular at the new American posture within NATO, which calls for increased military spending by European partners.
