2023 officially marked the end of the global health crisis brought by the Covid-19 pandemic , but the intensity of other existing crises – climate, food security, debt – has not decreased. In addition, new and old conflicts are (re)emerging that make the operational context increasingly complex for international development practitioners. How has Italy navigated this international landscape in cooperating with partner countries?

In an increasingly fragmented international system, the EU-US cooperation is of paramount importance in critical areas of strategic rivalry such as trade and technology. In 2021 the European Commission and the Biden Administration established the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) with the aim to strengthen technological and industrial leadership, while upholding shared democratic values and bilateral economic relations. Transatlantic collaboration is especially pivotal for the governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

On 16 November, the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), the Italian Institute of International Affairs (IAI) and the Italian Institute of International Political Studies (ISPI) held a meeting for the handover of the Think 7 (T7) chairmanship from Japan to Italy. The event featured prestigious speakers from think tank/academic communities and government representatives from Japan, Italy and other countries, including non-G7 countries.
