The sixth meeting of the Mediterranean Strategy Group was held in Naples in the prestigious headquarters of the Banco di Napoli on March 1-2. The meeting, intended as a forum for dialogue and discussion on Mediterranean issues, was organized by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (IAI), Istituto Affari Internazionali, Studi e Ricerche per il Mezzogiorno (SRM) and the Intesa San Paolo Group.

The conference “The OSCE and the new context for regional cooperation in the Mediterranean” took place on Monday May 28th 2012 in the International Conference Hall of the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry. The Ministry, OSCE, IAI and IPALMO took part in the organization of the event. The Foreign Affairs Minister, Giulio Terzi di Sant’Agata, opened the floor with some remarks underlying the necessity of a multilateral initiative to live up to the challenges put forward by the Arab spring.

The Food Security Challenge in the Middle East and North Africa and the Role of the EU

At the beginning of 2014, IAI and the OCP Policy Center have launched a new research project on the topics of food security in the Middle East and North Africa and on the role of the European Union. This project will be developed over two years and will include both research and outreach activities. It will critically tackle the nexus between food security in the Mediterranean region and the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

IAI-OCP Strategic Partnership on Mediterranean Issues

At the end of 2012, IAI launched a strategic partnership with the OCP Policy Center in Rabat dealing with Mediterranean issues This three-year research and outreach endeavoured leverages IAI's expertise in Mediterranean issues to produce an enhanced programme of research focused on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation. In the period 2013-2015, the partnership focused on the following two topics: the management of natural resources and food security.
