European security: a conversation with the chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Jonatan Vseviov

On September 13, 2023 at IAI, a group of experts participated in a conversation with the chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Jonatan Vseviov, in a closed-door meeting moderated by President Ferdinando Nelli Feroci.

The conversation focused on the future security asset in Europe, analyzing the current state of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the many challenges that will arise in a post-conflict scenario.

The meeting has been organised in collaboration with the Estonian Embassy in Rome.

The war against Ukraine and European security

The project examines the implications of the war against Ukraine on the security structure in Europe and the conditions for rebuilding a strategic balance through new deterrence relationships and new regimes and agreements on arms control as well as trust-building and security measures.

Biography

Loredana Teodorescu is Senior Fellow on gender issues in international relations at Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Head of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network.

Expert in EU policies and governance, in particular in the fields of migration and foreign policy, women's leadership and participation, and women, peace and security agenda, she is also the President of the Italian branch of Women In International Security (WIIS) and Head of European and International Affairs of Istituto Luigi Sturzo. She is a Board Member of the the European Movement Italy, Research Associate of the Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies in Brussels and of WIIS Global in Washington, and author of HerAndEU Podcast. She is also part of numerous networks of experts including the Fundamental Rights Platform of the European Fundamental Rights Agency and the Consultative Forum of the European Asylum Agency. Previously, she was an expert advisor to the Senate's Extraordinary Human Rights Commission and she worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of the EU Presidency.

After a bachelor's degree in Political Science and a master's degree in International Relations, she earned a PhD in Political Science-European and International Studies from Roma Tre University, focusing on EU migration policy and the link between foreign policy and internal security.

The event is organized by the CBRN-P3 Cluster which brings together most of the Italian actors involved in the CBRN-E sector, together with ENEA and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation. The event will be structured into two sessions: the first one dedicated to the presentation of the DEXTER project - Detection of EXplosives and firearms to counter TERrorism; while the second session will address other international projects and initiatives followed by some of the members of the CBRN-P3 Cluster.
