Salute e sicurezza: l’impatto delle epidemie sulla sicurezza europea e globale

The purpose of the event is to analyse the health and security nexus with a focus on the relevance of epidemic/pandemic risk for European and global security. Experts and policy-makers will discuss the role of the various actors involved in global health governance and the international cooperation initiatives needed to effectively address global health threats such as pandemics. A IAI paper related to these issues will be presented and discussed during the event.

Academic seminars on European and Transatlantic Security

Since 2022, IAI has held every year an academic seminar on Europe’s security, NATO and European defence, in light of the Russia-Ukraine war and considering an international security environment increasingly multipolar and tense. In this context, particular attention is paid to Italian foreign and defence policy, with respect to three traditional dimensions: European, transatlantic and enlarged Mediterranean ones.

The focus of the Annual Conference organized by the CBRN Cluster is technological innovation in the CBRN sector, with particular reference to European projects involving Italian actors. The aim is to highlight its importance, if not indispensability, to face new challenges even in this sector where criticalities of natural or anthropogenic origin are growing. Technological innovation, in addition to enabling a strengthening and improvement of the various resilience tools available, including reducing their management costs, can enable the availability of new ones.

Biography

Vladimir Blaiotta is a researcher fellow in the "Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa" programme at the IAI. He completed his Ph.D in 2023 at the University of Catania, with a thesis on migration policies in Niger. During his doctoral studies, he conducted research at the Laboratoire d'Etudes et de Recherche sur les Dynamiques Sociales et le Développement Local (LASDEL) in Niamey, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Marseille, and the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs (NUPI) in Oslo. His research interests encompass migration studies, security policies and post-colonial studies.
