Una zona priva di armi di distruzione di massa in Medio Oriente: problemi aperti

30/03/2012

This volume contains the papers presented at a seminar on the creation of a weapons of mass destruction free zone (WMDFZ) in the Middle East, held at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) on December 19, 2011. The subject was viewed from an international law angle, a subject almost completely overlooked in the existing literature. Examined were the political and security dynamics that could complicate the launching of the international diplomatic conference on WMDFZ after the naming of a "facilitator", the role played so far by the European Union in the efforts to disarm and institutionalize the WMDFZ in the Middle East, and future prospects. The volume closes with a report (Chatham House rules) on the animated debate among the diplomats, researchers and experts from various countries and prestigious research institutes that followed the presentations.
