Cooperazione transatlantica nella difesa e trasferimento di tecnologie sensibili

30/06/2008

The aim of the study is to analyse cooperation between the United States and Europe in the defence sector, in particular with regard to international programmes for the development and production of weapon systems. The Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) and the Medium Extended Air Defence System (MEADS) are taken as case studies. The study assesses the military, economic and technological importance of the two programmes for Italy and especially the problems related to the transfer of sensitive information and technologies from the United States. In addition to official documents and various publications, it also takes into consideration interviews carried out with authoritative figures from military, diplomatic and industrial spheres. In the end, the study puts forward ten policies that would allow Italy to pursue its national interests in the framework of transatlantic cooperation.
