In this event, we will discuss the opportunities for a deeper Italian-German dialogue regarding the energy transition. At the beginning of the event, the key findings of the recent project, entitled “An Italian-German Dialogue on Energy Security and Transition amid Russia’s War on Ukraine”, on this issue will be presented.

In 2023, the EU has enacted its most ambitious legislation to protect global forests: the EU-Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR), the first to ever directly address the leading cause of deforestation - agriculture. Yet, two months before its actual start, the global response has been so intense that the Commission itself has proposed a one year delay in its implementation, and its future is still unclear. The debate is now so fierce that it has involved not only Member States but trading partners from all over the world, from Indonesia to Brazil and the US.

The event will discuss opportunities and challenges that the Green Deal strategy may encounter over the next five years. The conversation will be kickstarted with the presentation of the fourteenth issue of Green Deal Watch, a quarterly publication edited by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) that monitors European climate policy developments.
