La cooperazione economica e tecnologica Ue-Usa di fronte alle nuove sfide geostrategiche e il ruolo dell'Italia

2023 - 2024

The project seeks to explore the obstacles and possibilities for cooperation between the U.S. and Europe in key sectors, in the context of increasing geo-economic rivalry among global superpowers, as well as the opportunities for Italy within the Euro-Atlantic partnership. The project focuses, firstly, on the positioning of U.S., Europe and Italy in the global geopolitical chessboard and the limits and potential of their respective trade and investment policies. These issues, which are strategic in a context of multipolarity and interdependence of value chains, are analysed with particular regard to four macro-themes: industrial policy, control of foreign direct investment, export control of dual-use technologies and materials, and restrictive measures and sanctions.
Furthermore, the project assesses the existing state of transatlantic cooperation and the possibilities for its enhancement in key areas of geo-economic competition.
The project will serve four primary objectives: i) to frame and analyse threats and risk factors, including those of a long-term nature stemming from the geo-politicisation of the economy in the context of transatlantic cooperation; ii) to analyse and compare trade and investment policies implemented at national, European and U.S. levels; iii) to identify opportunities for transatlantic cooperation in areas that are crucial for Europe and Italy; iv) to facilitate discussions on project-related subjects among experts and officials from foreign ministries representing key European, and NATO countries.
