Empowering Africa

2017 - 2019

The project offered an in-depth analysis of the current status, the future prospects and the main questions related to access to energy for household and industry in the African continent, such as the progress of the power sector, the development of new technological solutions and the impact of today’s and future economic, demographic, social and technological trends. Therefore the project delivered an assessment of the main dynamics influencing electricity generation and access to energy, with a specific focus on renewable energies and distribution grid developments. It also discussed new technological solutions being developed precisely for the African framework, such as mini-grids able to guarantee access to a share of the population today still excluded.

In March 2019, a volume was published in the series "Global Politics and Security", offering an analysis of the main energy dynamics in place in the region. The volume was presented at an international conference and subsequently distributed to public and private stakeholders at national, European, African and international level.
