Biography

Karolina Muti is senior fellow in the “Defence, security and space” programme at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), where she deals with strategic, operational, industrial and policy aspects of defence and space at national, European and transatlantic levels. Her research and publications focus on topics such as European defence, NATO, space and critical infrastructure protection, as well as Italian and Polish foreign policy, defence and security. Karolina has coordinated and/or worked on research projects for EU institutions and agencies, various NATO divisions, Italian public institutions and private stakeholders in the defence and aerospace sector. She was Junior Pan European Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in 2020-2021. Her past work experiences include, among others, managing the international relations of a small enterprise and working with asylum seekers for an NGO. She is member of Women in International Security (WIIS) - Italy. She graduated with honours from the University of Bologna (Forlì), in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs, with a specialisation in International Politics and Security, and a thesis on European defence. She speaks Italian, Polish, English, Spanish, Russian and also a basic level of French.
