The study focused on the transformation process of Armed Forces in the main NATO countries related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and therefore on the progressive realization of Network Enabled Capabilities (NEC). Following the research project conducted by IAI in 2011, the new study started with an introductive chapter and then it analysed three case studies: the American, European and Italian cases. The latter included an update analysis of the digitization process of the Italian Army through the Forza NEC Program and its current developments.

The study focuses on the education and training of the Italian Armed Forces in the current operational context and in the 2015-2025 perspective, by analyzing challenges and opportunities to maintain adequate standards of effectiveness, readiness, interoperability and efficiency of the military instrument. Particular attention will be given to the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and to the use and development of national training areas. The research was presented in a conference on 11 December 2014.

From 2009 to 2011 (see Yearbooks 2010-2012), the IAI has published a detailed chronology of Italy's foreign policy that offered relevant and up-to-dated information on the international role of Italy.
In 2009 (see Yearbook 2010) the chronology was accompanied by a concise analysis and evaluation of key initiatives implemented by the Italian government on the international stage (only in Italian).

Published since 2010 to 2013 by il Mulino, the yearbook La politica estera dell'Italia [=Italy's foreign policy] examined Italy's role and action in a rapidly changing international scenario. Edited in cooperation with ISPI, the yearbook's structure included an exhaustive large introductory chapter presenting analytical tables and graphs that provided an overall picture of Italy's main interests, priorities and initiatives in the international field. The subsequent chapters, more sectorial, delved more thoroughly into various aspects of Italy's external action.

This study - in cooperation with the HWWA-Institute fur Wirtschaftsforschung, Hamburg - was centred on the internationalisation processes under way in the audio-video sector and relative national policies and evaluated the implications for global governance in terms of sectoral development and relations among major countries.
