IAI has been closely monitoring developments in the defence sector in Europe throughout 2025, in light of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine and the changes introduced by the Trump administration to the United States’ approach to transatlantic relations.

The initiative aims to provide European member states with a study and design of a new collaborative defence capability: an interoperable, resilient and scalable network of responsive space systems (RSS), capable of launching satellites and initiating data delivery within 72 hours.

The IAI is part of a European consortium that brings together leading companies in the space sector for the EMISSARY project (December 2024-Marzo 2029). EMISSARY will enhance the acquisition of space domain awareness information by supporting the development of a network of advanced sensors and a military space situational awareness command and control software to process and circulate data, which will ensure national and European sovereignty.
