The project “Defence and Security Matters 2017: Italy”, funded by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division, contributes to the effort to communicate and discuss NATO purpose and role, particularly in Europe (see more on Twitter #wearenato). The initiative will specifically address the “successor generation”, including less-NATO informed audience, by engaging both university students and young to mid-level professionals with different backgrounds.
Based also on the experience from previous years within the Defence Matters initiative, the project will focus on two main issues: collective defence and defence investments. These topics are closely interlinked and will be addressed in a synergic manner, by moving forward on the premise that accomplishing the mission of collective defence, and generally speaking NATO core tasks, requires both adequate investments and capabilities development. Within this framework, specific attention will be devolved to the Italy’s contribution in terms of expenditures, capabilities and operations.
