Academic conferences in cooperation with NATO Allied Command Transformation and Bologna University

2011 - current

This series of international academic conferences - sponsored by NATO's Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and organized by IAI, in partnership with Bologna University - does contribute to a virtuous dialogue between the Alliance and the academic and think tanks world.
Financing: NATO ACT

The eight edition of the Academic Conference returned to Bertinoro (Forlì) on 21-22 October 2021, by involving more than 60 in-person participants. The topic has been “Pandemics and International Security: The Outlook for NATO”, and both papers and working groups’ reports have been released through an ad-hoc publication.

The seventh conference has taken place entirely online on 17 November 2020. It discussed the theme NATO Decision-making: Promises and Perils of the Big Data Age. The papers presented and the reports of the three working groups has been published online in 2021 into an ad hoc volume.

The sixth has been held on 24-26 October 2018 in Bertinoro (Forlì). It focused on the question of Projecting stability in an era of hybrid warfare and terrorism: which NATO role?. The papers presented and the reports of the working groups have been published in the IAI's document "Approaches to Regional Stability and the Outlook for NATO".

The fifth event took place on 10-11 May 2017 in Bologna and addressed the issue of Projecting Stability in an Unstable World”. Proceedings have been collected into an ad hoc ACT publication edited by IAI and Bologna University.

The fourth conference has taken place on 4-6 October 2015 in Bertinoro (Forlì) and dealt with the question What NATO for What Threats?. See proceedings.

The third conference, held on 15-17 May 2014 in Bertinoro (Forlì), focused on Flexible Frameworks, Beyond Borders. Understanding Regional Dynamics to Enhance Cooperative Security. The papers presented and the reports of the working groups and plenary session have been published into an ad hoc volume.

The second conference was held on 26-27 October 2012 in Bologna. It focused on Dynamic Change. Re-thinking NATO's Capabilities, Operations, and Partnerships. Proceedings have been collected into an ad hoc ACT publication edited by IAI and Bologna University.

The first conference was held on 21-22 June 2011 in Bologna on the topic Managing change: NATO’s partnerships and deterrence in a globalized world. See proceedings (ACT website).
