Intelligenza artificiale e Difesa italiana: sfide e opportunità

The project, carried out for Accenture S.p.A., aimed to analyse and stimulate reflection on the growing centrality of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the defence sector, with particular reference to the Italian case within the NATO context. The analysis focused on the implications and challenges arising from the integration of AI into military equipment, including aerial drones, new platforms and legacy systems, as well as into command and control (C2) and cyber defence. A further area of focus concerned the training of military personnel on AI, as well as the ethical and political-military control implications associated with its use. Finally, the project examined the Defence AI Strategy published by the Italian Ministry of Defence in February 2026.
The project included the drafting of a paper, developed also through dialogue with stakeholders and experts, as well as the organisation of a closed-door roundtable at the Institute’s premises.
