Hot waters: the situation in the South China Sea

For over thirty years the Spratly Islands have been claimed for several different reasons by China , Malaysia , Vietnam , the Philippines , Brunei and Taiwan. The archipelago is a key location for the control of the South China Sea, which in turn is the gateway to regional supremacy in the Pacific.
