Gli italiani e la politica estera 2022

20/10/2022

What foreign policy threats, priorities and challenges will the new Italian government have to deal with, according to Italians? How do they perceive the Draghi government’s handling of Italian foreign policy, for instance in response to the war against Ukraine and the energy crisis? How does Italy’s public opinion feel about the rise of China and alleged Russian interference in Italian politics? How do they view Italy’s relations with the EU, and how many would vote for an exit from the Union in case of a referendum? Also, what are the prevailing opinions among the voters of the major political parties on all these issues? These are the questions at the centre of the yearly opinion survey conducted by IAI – as part of the strategic partnership with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation – and the Political and Social Analysis Laboratory (LAPS) of the University of Siena. This report discusses the main results and provides a comparison with those of the previous surveys, thus highlighting evolving public opinion trends with respect to Italian foreign policy.
