Biography

Matteo Bonomi is a Senior Fellow in the “EU, Politics and Institutions” programme at IAI. His research focuses on European integration, with particular emphasis on EU enlargement, its political economy, EU-Western Balkans relations, and EU foreign policy more broadly. He has coordinated research projects funded by the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and other international donors. He has contributed analytical studies and hearings for the European Parliament, the Italian Parliament, and the European Economic and Social Committee, and regularly provides closed-door briefings to diplomatic missions based in Rome. He has cooperated with several research institutes and foundations, including Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Foundation for European Progressive Studies, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Aspen Institute Germany, and the European Policy Institute. Before joining IAI, he worked at the European Policy Centre and served as a consultant in Belgrade, supporting public policy coordination and the European Research Executive Agency of the European Commission. He is a lecturer in the Master in Global Economic Governance and Public Affairs at the Luiss Guido Carli School of Government, and holds a Ph.D. in Politics, Human Rights and Sustainability from the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.
