The International Spectator is pleased to announce that the article “From Engaging to Containing China: US Attempts to Fill Power-role Gaps (2000–2018)”, by Zakiyeh Yazdanshenas, has been selected as the winner of the Global Voices Award 2025.

The journal’s editors recognised the article’s strong scholarly quality and original contribution to current debates in International Relations. Building on Power Cycle Theory, the piece offers a rigorous analysis of shifting US–China power dynamics and connects these trends to Washington’s evolving foreign policy roles across successive administrations, providing a clear, evidence-based account that will be of interest to both academic and policy communities.

Established by The International Spectator, the Global Voices Award promotes accessibility and visibility for scholarship amplifying diverse voices and perspectives. In line with the Award’s purpose, the winning article will be retroactively converted to full open access.

The International Spectator and the Istituto Affari Internazionali gratefully acknowledge the support of Fondazione CSF and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, whose contribution makes this open-access publication possible.
