High-Tech Alliances: South Korea, the G7 and the Future of AI and Nuclear Innovation

Autori Kayla Orta
Data pubblicazione

Rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and nuclear energy are redefining global competition and cooperation. As the G7 expands efforts to safeguard technological innovation and energy security, South Korea’s rise as a “G7 Plus” partner underscores its growing role in shaping global trajectories for emerging technologies. Demonstrating strengths in semiconductors, AI governance and civil nuclear technology, South Korea could play leading role in bridging regulation and industry-forward innovation for emerging technology ecosystems. Enhanced G7–ROK collaboration – expanding AI innovation alongside advanced nuclear technology development – will bolster resilient supply chains, enhance low-carbon energy reliability and reinforce democratic governance standards. Aligning G7 and ROK efforts within a shared strategic S&T framework offers a pathway to sustain technological competitiveness while advancing a stable, rules-based order in the era of digital and energy transformation.

Paper produced in the framework of the project “Multilateralism at a Turning Point: The ROK and its Engagement with the G7”.
