Advanced Certificates and Executive Courses for Professionals
The Advanced Certificate is a training program, composed by three courses, designed for students, recent graduates and professionals who want to strengthen their professional development and improve their individual skills in order to work in international contexts.
It is also possible to attend individual courses without being enrolled in an Advanced Certificate.

What is an Advanced Certificate?
The Advanced Certificateare training programs designed for students, recent graduates, and professionals aiming to enhance their professional development and improve individual skills to operate in international contexts. The IAI's active Advanced Certificates for 2024 are: "International Policy Analyst," Advanced Certificate in “Sustainable Development, Cooperation, and Conflict Management" and "Advanced Certificate for International Careers." Additionally, starting this year, participants can access the Advanced Certificate Plus programs, which include, in addition to the training provided by individual Advanced Certificates, participation in a practical workshop by IAI. This workshop aims to provide participants with more in-depth and detailed skills and tools in the field of communication in international relations. How do you obtain an Advanced Certificate?
It is required to attend at least three courses at the IAI, including two mandatory courses and an elective one, offered over the course of one year or two semesters. The Advanced Certificate Plus entails participation in three IAI courses and an in-person practical workshop.

What is the international and national value of IAI courses?
The IAI's educational offering includes specialized courses developed in collaboration with high-level experts in the field, internationally recognized as attendance certificates. Depending on the universities, IAI provides the necessary documentation for the recognition of credits (ECTS) by the enrolling university to all participants who have successfully attended at least 80% of the lessons. For members of the Armed Forces and State Police, the IAI provides the necessary support for enrollment annotations.
Is a certificate issued at the end of the course?
AAt the end of the course, a certificate of participation is awarded to those who have successfully attended at least 80% of the classes. Additionally, it is possible to obtain an additional certificate by completing the Advanced Certificates, training programs aimed at deepening the knowledge and expanding the skills of university students, graduates, and professionals to operate in international contexts.
Are there any facilities available for course attendance?
In addition to scholarships, there are facilitations of 10 and 15 per cent available on the cost of training courses. These facilitations are applied at the time of registration.
- 10% discounts: Lazio Youth Card holders and Junior IAI Members.
- 15% discounts: Italian Ministry of Defense employees and, only for the Gender Politics course, WIIS-Italy associates.
Through an "Early Application" to the courses that make up the IAI Advanced Certificates, there is the possibility of accessing a 15% discount on the total fee, to be paid in advance and in a single instalment. Furthermore, an "Early Application" for an Advanced Certificate Plus allows for a 20% discount on the total fee (also to be paid in advance in a single instalment).
Discounts are not cumulative, but the most advantageous one will be applied for participants.
Is it possible to benefit from scholarships?
Full scholarships covering the total costs of training courses are available, and awarded based on income and merit criteria, thanks to the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation. The application must be submitted, without exception, up to 20 days before the start of the chosen course. Please refer to the page of each course for more information on the scholarships awarded. How do you enrol on the courses?
Enrollment in the courses is done online. Two different online registration forms are provided, depending on whether or not a scholarship is being requested. In both cases, the link for online enrollment is available on the page of the course you wish to enrol in (check the educational offer).
What is the Competence Assessment Tool?

Is class capacity limited in number?
No, unless otherwise indicated. Refer to the individual course page for more information.
When do course registrations close?
You can enrol in the courses until approximately one week before the start date.
Is specific preliminary knowledge required?
Specific preliminary knowledge is not required. However, in some cases, having a background in Social Sciences and a keen interest in international political dynamics is recommended. Completing the Competence Assessment Tool is recommended, as it is an important tool for choosing the most suitable IAI training course for your needs and profile.
In which language are the IAI courses delivered?
The working language in IAI courses is Italian. However, where explicitly stated in the educational program, there may be modules in English.
