EU-Korea SDGs Workshop Series

2021 - current

The “EU-Korea SDGs Workshop Series” is a project coordinated by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and funded by the Korea Foundation (KF), which was launched in 2020 with the aim of establishing a platform for dialogue between the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The workshop series has been devised to bring together renowned EU and ROK experts from academia and think tanks, practitioners from leading international organizations, and – potentially – representatives from North Korea to discuss the effectiveness of ongoing developmental projects in the country and the modalities for their implementation.
In 2021 IAI organized the first edition of the workshop series, which was devoted to one of the most pressing issues affecting the wellbeing of North Korean citizens, namely Food Security and Agriculture Development. The second edition of the series – which focuses on Health Cooperation - took place in the spring of 2022. The goal of the third edition is to foster a joint analysis of EU-ROK cooperation on facilitating implementation of projects related to Environmental Protection and Disaster Management and is meant to sustain a process of regular annual meetings on EU-ROK cooperation on the matter.
