Building on the Past, Facing the Future - 50 Years of IAI

IAI 50th Anniversary Conference under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

At the conference we discussed long-term strategic issues, such as the prospects for EU integration, the future of transatlantic relations and the geopolitical challenges in the EU’s neighbourhoods.

The event, which took place on the afternoon of Friday, November 13 and the morning of Saturday, November  14, offered also an opportunity to recall the IAI’s accomplishments over the last half a century, as well as discuss its future role in Italy and Europe.

EU High Representative meets with IAI

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, Federica Mogherini, was hosted by IAI during her first official visit to Italy in her European role. Nearing her first anniversary since the start of her mandate, Mogherini outlined the new strategic horizons of Europe’s foreign policy in a meeting with IAI researchers and staff.

Not out of a delusion of leadership or to encroach on the prerogatives of national governments, but out of an understanding that only when the diplomatic actions of all twenty-eight Member States work in synergy with one another can Europe obtain positive results.
