The Italian parliament after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty

2011 - 2011

IAI was part of a trans-European project, coordinated by CEPS in Brussels, on the role of national parliaments in the EU decision-making process after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. The institute analyzed the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on four aspects of the Italian parliament's participation in the EU legislative process: parliament's influence on government; parliament's growing political dialogue with EU institutions; its contribution to inter-parliamentary cooperation; the evolving relationship with the European Parliament. A part of the study carried out by IAI was published in an article "Sleeping Beauty Awakens: The Italian Parliament and the EU After the Lisbon Treaty", in The International Spectator (no.3, 2011) . The overall outcome of the research has been published by CEPS. A seminar has been organized in Rome, on 20 May 2011, by IAI in cooperation with the European Policy Institutes Network (EPIN) to compare the behaviour of the national parliaments of EU member states and design the project's follow up.
