European Dialogue on Disinformation ahead of the 2024 European election

2023 - 2023

The project, “European Dialogue on Disinformation ahead of the 2024 European elections” aims to provide a pre-election overview of the challenges and risks posed by disinformation. With a geographical focus on Germany, Italy and Bulgaria, the project intends to focus on three issues that have frequently been the subject of disinformation in the context of the war in Ukraine: Ukrainian refugees, Western military support, the energy crisis and environmental concerns.
The project also aims to promote understanding of the phenomenon and disseminate knowledge about joint efforts to counter disinformation in these areas.
It does so by adopting an inclusive and multistakeholder approach to countering disinformation while fostering democratic participation.

As a result of the project’s activities, the policy brief "Disinformation Ahead of the EU Parliamentary Elections: A Snapshot from Bulgaria, Germany, and Italy" has been presented and discussed at an event held in Brussels in December 2023. Policymakers, experts and civil society representatives have been involved in the discussion. The policy brief is the result of extensive documentary research, complemented by a series of interviews conducted between September and October 2023 with experts actively engaged in combating disinformation in the context of the war in Ukraine.
