Development matters: a new Italian development cooperation policy to manage polycrises

2025 - current

This project aims at studying the Italian development cooperation agenda within the current international context, with particular attention posed on the effects of the multiple crises and those stemming from the redefinition of historic geopolitical balances. From this perspective, the research team’s work focuses on analysing, from various angles, the evolution of Italy’s actions in support of low- and middle-income countries, with the objective of examining the support provided both at the bilateral and multilateral levels. In this regard, the project concentrates on Italy’s contributions to multilateral organisations and fora – with a specific focus on those active in the health sector – as well as on the projects designed and implemented through the Mattei Plan. The research includes the organisation of events (both public and closed-door) involving members of Italian and international institutions, academics and representatives of non-governmental organisations. Likewise, the publication of contributions on specific topics addressed during the project is also planned.
