Studi internazionali. I luoghi del sapere in Italia

15/01/2002

The present work is the result of preliminary research regarding internationalist competencies in Italy. The underlying reason for such a study lies in the lack of an information and consultation instrument in Italy that attests and reflects the actual growth of internationalist culture in the country. In fact, we are convinced that this growth is underway and that it has already produced some results, though many of the existing competencies are still scarcely visible, often fragmented and spread out in numerous "places", or else connected to groups or individuals without a real institutional role. For these very reasons, our study lacks solid precedents and a consolidated tradition of systematic gathering and divulging of information. The exchange of information was partly created through our research, which in the first stage, served as a stimulus for the "places" of internationalist competencies to provide us with relatively homogeneous data that were easy to use. Naturally, the starting point of this work was the conviction that a guide on these matters is useful. This has been demonstrated in the important contribution given to those operating in this sector by the Guida della Fondazione Agnelli, edited by Luigi Bonanante, published more than ten years ago, in 1990. It is evident that since the publication of that guide many changes have taken place in international affairs, and likewise knowledge has expanded in this vast sector. This guide is primarily of an informative nature with regards to the sector in question. At the same time, it is organised and presented in such a way as to allow rapid updating and easy consultation thanks to the CD-ROM attached to this volume.

Volume prepared by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) in cooperation with the Centro Studi di Politica Internazionale (CeSPI) with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo.
