Jeta Krasniqi: The Kosovo–Serbia dialogue, gender inclusion and reconciliation

Jeta Krasniqi, a Kosovo expert, adviser to the Government of Kosovo on the EU-facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, and a member of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network, reflects on the challenges of building sustainable peace more than 25 years after the war in Kosovo. She highlights the need to address the unresolved legacies of the conflict—including the issue of missing persons, reparations and conflict-related sexual violence—in order to advance meaningful reconciliation.

Drawing on her experience of the dialogue and more than a decade of work with survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, Jeta examines the impact of these legacies on younger generations and the importance of integrating a gender perspective into the design of peace processes. She also underlines the role of women’s civil society in advancing recognition, access to justice and trust-building.
