Lorenzo Vai

Lorenzo Vai is a Non-resident Fellow in the “Europe” programme at IAI. His research interests focus on the institutions and policies of the European Union, with particular attention to its external action and the Common Foreign and Security Policy. His work also addresses the historical dimensions of the European integration process. An Italian diplomat, he has served in the Policy Planning Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and is currently posted at the Embassy of Italy in Maputo, Mozambique. He was previously a researcher at IAI and at the Centre for Studies on Federalism (CSF) in Turin, and a Pan-European Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). He has taught at the University of Turin and at Sapienza University and Roma Tre University in Rome, has authored publications and articles on European affairs, and is co-author of the podcast “Storie diplomatiche” (diplomatic stories).
