The Italian Agri-Food Sector in the Mattei Plan: Bridging Science, Policy and Private Sector Mobilisation

To bridge the gap between high-level policy ambitions and on-the-ground challenges in African agriculture, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Alliance of Bioversity International/CGIAR are joining forces under the framework of Italy’s Mattei Plan. Through a series of four high-level closed-door events held between 2026 and 2027, the initiative will address geopolitical shocks, private sector investment barriers, frontier AI technologies and the commercialisation of scientific research. Ultimately, the project will publish a joint final report introducing a new methodology for measuring agricultural investment impacts and establishing the operational charter for a permanent Rome Agri-Food Cluster.
