Irene Fellin: Women, Peace and Security: from civil society to NATO

Irene Fellin, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security and a key figure in the creation and development of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN), reflects on her shift from cultural diplomacy to mediation and international security. As founder of Women in International Security Italy, Irene also traces the development of MWMN as a network rooted in the expertise of women working across the Mediterranean.
The conversation further explores Irene’s work at NATO and the importance of conceiving security beyond borders and military outcomes. Drawing on a project supporting women in Ukraine’s armed forces, she explains how access to properly fitted uniforms and protective equipment directly affects their safety and operational effectiveness.
The episode is part of #HerStories, the podcast of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network, produced in collaboration with IAI and Women In International Security Italy, dedicated to the voices of women mediators and peacebuilders from the Mediterranean.
