What lies ahead for cryptocurrencies?

By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, the project aims to examine the phenomenon of cryptocurrencies and, more broadly, the digitalisation of money. In this regard, particular attention is devoted to the following issues: (i) the development of stablecoins; (ii) the regulation of digital money at the multilateral level; and (iii) the evolution of the main Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) projects. The research team’s objective is to provide analyses that, drawing on IAI’s established national and international network, offer a comprehensive overview of the main factors that will shape the evolution of an increasingly important sector of the global economic system. The project is intended to serve policymakers and academics, as well as the mass media and the general public.
