Women play a fundamental role in mediation, negotiation, conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Yet their contribution often remains outside a public debate focused on formal negotiations and high-level diplomacy. Much of the work needed to sustain dialogue, build trust and create opportunities for peaceful engagement takes place elsewhere, thanks to the efforts of women professionals active in institutions, communities and civil society.

It is from this awareness that #HerStories was born: a podcast produced by the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network (MWMN) and hosted by Magda Zenon, giving voice to women mediators and peacebuilders from across the Mediterranean.

Through the testimonies of twenty members of the Network, the podcast offers insight into the different ways in which women contribute to peace and security in the Mediterranean, highlighting their role in mediation processes and in building dialogue.

The Mediterranean Women Mediators Network was established in 2017 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, together with IAI and Women In International Security Italy (WIIS Italy), with the aim of strengthening the role of women as agents of peace and security in the region. By bringing together professionals, policymakers and experts from North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, the Balkans and selected EU countries, the Network helps promote the Women, Peace and Security agenda, while also fostering dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean.
