General course overview

The course offers a practical overview of how decision-making processes function in contemporary diplomacy, examining the role of actors, the interests at stake, and the dynamics that shape the formulation of international policies. In a global context marked by strategic competition, recurring crises, and profound social transformations, understanding how decisions are made—and which factors influence their effectiveness—has become an increasingly essential skill.

Within this broader framework, the course introduces a reflection on gender dimensions as a useful—and often overlooked—element for improving the analysis of diplomatic processes and security contexts. Gender is not treated as an isolated theme, but as one of the lenses through which political dynamics, participation, leadership, and institutional resilience can be understood in greater depth.

Through interactive lectures, guided discussions, and the use of contemporary case studies, participants will acquire concrete tools to interpret the mechanisms of international political decision-making, assess the impact of social and institutional variables, and recognize how the practice of diplomacy is evolving in the modern world.
