General course overview

The course “Arctic: Security, Climate, and Strategic Interests” offers an intensive two-day training that combines political and geopolitical analysis, environmental perspectives, and strategic reflection to explore the growing relevance of the Arctic in contemporary international relations.

Rapid climate warming, competition for energy and mineral resources, and the progressive militarization of the region have turned the Arctic into a global laboratory where security, sustainability, and multilateral governance intersect. The region has also become increasingly strategic for countries geographically distant from it, as illustrated by the Italian case.

Through interactive lectures and guided discussions led by academic experts and sector professionals, participants will acquire tools to understand the complexity of an area that today represents a crucial node for international security, energy supply, and environmental cooperation.

The teaching methodology includes interactive lectures, case study analysis, guided discussions, the use of cartographic materials, strategic documents and environmental datasets, as well as comparative insights on governance, resources, and security.
