EU/Italy - Taiwan Relations 2025
This project (May 2025-June 2026) aims to analyse relations between the EU, Italy and Taiwan, in light of the latter’s growing strategic importance. Taiwan currently plays a central role in global value chains, particularly in semiconductor production, and is the EU’s thirteenth-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade amounting to 78.3 billion euros in 2023. At the same time, the island’s geopolitical stability has direct implications for European interests, making cooperation crucial for economic and technological security. The project envisions the publication of four thematic studies – economic security, technological governance, green transition and geopolitical shifts – with the aim of proposing avenues for cooperation to strengthen value chains and economic resilience.
