The Republic of Korea (ROK)-G7 Dialogue and Cooperation Forum

22/05/2025, Ottawa | 8:30

To mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the G7, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), with the support and funding from the Korea Foundation, and in collaboration with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), organised the second “ROK-G7 Cooperation Forum” on May 22 in Ottawa, Canada. The forum explored how Canada, Japan and European G7 countries could work strategically with the ROK to prop up and bolster multilateral engagement and manage Indo-Pacific security challenges. The event was attended by former officials and experts from academia, think tanks and representatives of the private sector from South Korea, together with their counterparts from the G7 countries and Australia. The first two open sessions focused on ‘Prospects for ROK-G7 Cooperation on International Security’ and ‘Prospects for ROK-G7 Partnership in Science, Technology, and Global Development’. These were followed by two closed-door sessions, carried out under Chatham House Rule: a “Special session” and a final session on “Prospects for ROK-G7 Cooperation on Trade and Investment”.
