Gli italiani e l'Unione europea

23/11/2020

How much do Italians trust the European Union? How do they judge its policies? Have they changed their opinions compared to six months ago? These are some of the questions this opinion survey on the perceptions of the Italian population regarding the relations with the European Union (EU) tries to answer. The survey was carried out by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the Political and Social Analysis Laboratory of the University of Siena in the context of the strategic partnership with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation. The opinion survey – conducted between the end of October and the beginning of November 2020 on a representative sample of the Italian resident population – focuses on what Italians think about the role of the EU in managing the pandemic and in particular on the European aid to Italy. What are the prevailing opinions on the role of the government in defending its national interests within the EU? How many would vote today for an exit from the Union in case of a referendum? What do Italians think of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM)? What should the priorities in the management of the funds of the Recovery Fund be? And what are the prevailing opinions in the electorates of the various parties on all these issues?
