IAI University of Turin Essay Prize 2022 – Winning Essays Announced

Successful candidates of the 2nd edition of the IAI-University of Turin Essay Prize 2022 have been announced. The five winning essays, selected by an Advisory Board composed of experts and academics from institutions involved in the initiative, will be published by IAI and presented during an online ceremony in early December 2022..

The essay contest was launched by IAI - in the context of its strategic partnership with the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation Foundation - and the Department of Historical Studies of the University of Turin, in collaboration with the School of Advanced Studies “Ferdinando Rossi” and the Luigi Einaudi Foundation.

The board selected the winning essays from a pool of submissions of outstanding quality and analytical skills, addressing different topics of relevance to Italian Foreign policy

Essay Ranking:

1° Prize: Costanza Galetto (History), "The Ukrainian Conflict and the Energy Crisis: Sustaining the Energy Transition".

2° Prize: Silvia Strangis (Area and Global Studies for International Cooperation), "Italy’s Renewed Interest in the Horn of Africa".
Award plaque and monetary prize.

3° Prize: Pietro Malesani (Area and Global Studies for International Cooperation), "Italian Foreign Policy and the Western Sahara: Balancing Relations with Morocco and Algeria”.
Award plaque and monetary prize.

4° Prize: Anna Magnasco (Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology), "The MUOS Ground Station in Niscemi: Legal Aspects and Environmental Sensitivities in US-Italian Relations".
Award plaque and monetary prize.

5° Prize: Andrea Di Bernardo (Area and Global Studies for International Cooperation), "Climate Change and Food Insecurity: Unleashing the Promise and Potential of Agroecology in the Mediterranean".
