Cyprus hydrocarbons and geopolitics

Exploratory drilling has found up to 8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas off the coast of Cyprus. It is the world’s third biggest discovery in two years and has opened up new opportunities for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from the region. The question is: “Can hydrocarbons catalyse new out of the box thinking on Aphrodite's island?”. Energy could become the incentive for cooperation in the broader Eastern Mediterranean region. The unresolved Cyprus issue, however, still prevents the country from realising its full potential.
