Spatialising Security, Securitising Space: Ways into the Politics of the Middle East and North Africa

Security in the Middle East and North Africa is increasingly shaped by the ways space is constructed, contested and governed, challenging conventional, state-centric approaches to international relations. A new International Spectator Special Issue explores how integrating “space” into securitisation theory can open new, empirically grounded perspectives on security dynamics in the region.
Join us for the webinar based on the TIS Special Issue Spatialising Security, Securitising Space: Ways into the Politics of the Middle East and North Africa. The special editors Javier Bordón and Simon Mabon, discussant Tamirace Fakhoury (Fletcher School), and The International Spectator editors Leo Goretti and Daniela Huber will examine how security and space are co-constituted in the MENA region, offering fresh insights into the political dimensions of security beyond Western- and state-centric frameworks.
This event is in cooperation with SEPAD (the Sectarianism, Proxies and De-Sectarianization project), an international research network and collaborative project based at Lancaster University’s Richardson Institute.
