IEA Global Gas Security Review 2026

The global gas market became more flexible, liquid and ultimately more complex since the publication of the first Global Gas Security Review in 2016. The growing share of destination-flexible LNG and spot trading strengthened the interconnectivity of regional gas markets over the last decade. At the same time, the architecture of global gas security needs to be solidified in a world of growing geopolitical complexity.
The 10th edition of the Global Gas Security Review reflects on the profound, structural changes of the global gas market through the last decade and provides a thorough review of the impact of the Middle East crisis both on the local and global gas markets. The Report includes a special section on the winter outlook with a focus on the European market, which enters the heating season with decade-low storage levels and hence a reduced safety buffer.
