2026 EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference

On 9–10 November 2026, the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), on behalf of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium, will host the 15th edition of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Conference in Brussels.
As in previous editions, the Conference will feature a rich and interdisciplinary agenda, ranging from weapons of mass destruction to conventional arms, from space security to artificial intelligence and emerging military technologies, and regional security dynamics across Europe, the Middle East and East Asia. This year’s programme will place particular emphasis on a number of highly topical and sensitive issues. The Conference will open with a keynote session on the future of the chemical non-proliferation regime, featuring Sabrina Dallafior, Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). It will close with a keynote address by Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on non-proliferation in the current geopolitical context. Other key discussions will address the war in the Persian Gulf and its nuclear and conventional dimensions, the war in Ukraine and the future of European security, conventional arms control in an age of rearmament, and the state of the global non-proliferation regime after the 2026 NPT Review Conference, with the participation of its President, Ambassador Do Hung Viet. The debate will also integrate important historical reflections. Marking the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Reykjavík Summit, a dedicated intergenerational panel will bring together experienced diplomats and experts with a new generation of scholars and practitioners to reflect on the legacy of Reykjavík for arms control today and in the future.
The Conference is organised within the framework of the activities of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium and funded by the European Union.
