NATO in Space: challenges and opportunities of a new domain

The Webinar “NATO in Space: challenges and opportunities of a new domain” was held as part of the partnership between IAI and the NATO Defense College established in 2011. The event was organised the 17 June 2021 in cooperation with Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, in a hybrid format, with several participants hosted in IAI premises and others connected remotely.
The reflection focused on two main topics. On the one hand, the Atlantic Alliance’s approach to space as an operational domain and the growing relevance of space in terms of operations, doctrines, NATO structures, and education of the involved personnel. On the other hand, the role of stakeholders in this sector, from industries to start-ups, and the civil-military and public-private cooperation, also with reference to the Artemis programme. NATO officials and officers, representatives from the private sector, from the EU and Italian institutions, from the academic and research community in Europe took part to the event.
