The G20 for People, Planet and Prosperity - Rekindling Multilateralism in a post-Covid World

08/02/2021 - 09/02/2021, Webinar

The G20 has progressively enlarged its agenda which now covers all major global issues. It has the primary responsibility for promoting macroeconomic cooperation and safeguarding financial stability at the global level, but this year under the Italian presidency it is expected to play a prominent role in addressing a number of daunting challenges, including the covid-19 pandemic and the global economic recession.

The conference will examine the priorities of the Italian presidency of the G20 in the various policy areas and discuss how the think tank community can contribute to adapting the G20 action to the changing international environment in view of relaunching multilateral cooperation.

High-level personalities and top experts worldwide will come together on this occasion, including Alicia Bárcena (Executive Secretary, Economic Commission for Latin America and the Carrabean - CEPAL), Fatih Birol (Executive Director, International Energy Agency- IEA), Emma Bonino (former European Commissioner and Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs), Virginia Gamba (Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict), Paolo Gentiloni (European Commissioner for Economy), Jeffrey Sachs (Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University), and Vera Songwe (UN Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa).

The T20 is an official engagement group of the G20, bringing together leading global think tanks and research centers. It serves as the “ideas bank” of the G20 and it aims at providing research-based recommendations to the G20 policymakers. IAI has been appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office as its scientific partner for the Italian presidency of the G20 and as Co-Chair of the Think20 (T20) Italy 2021 with ISPI as the National Coordinator and Chair, and Bocconi University as the T20 Summit Co-Chair.
