The future of the EU financial architecture for development

09/12/2019, Rome, Residenza di Ripetta

In March 2019, The Council of the EU established a “High-level Group of Wise Persons on the European financial architecture for development” with the aim to collect an independent view on how to improve and rationalise the European financial architecture for development, currently characterised by a high fragmentation of competences, especially between the EIB and the EBRD.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the results of the analysis of the Wise Persons Group and the initiatives taken or being launched to carry forward its recommendations. The conference will be introduced by Thomas Wieser, the Chairman of the Group. A first session will discuss the initiatives regarding the institutional architecture, in particular the proposal of creation of a European Climate and Sustainable Development Bank.

A second session, introduced by Bruno Wenn, the Chairman of the Association of European Development Finance, will concentrate on the role that the private sector can play to support the European policy objectives, regarding in particular low emission growth and job creation in Africa.

The event is supported by Intesa Sanpaolo as part of a partnership with Istituto Affari Internazionali.
