The EU, the US and the international strategic dimension of Sub-Saharan Africa

08/12/2016, Nairobi

A conference in the framework of the research project "The EU, the US and the international strategic dimension of Sub-Saharan Africa: peace, security and development in the Horn of Africa", in cooperation with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The first part of the event was devoted to discussions on the role of external stakeholders - namely Brazil, China, the Gulf States and Turkey - in Sub-Saharan Africa. The second part focused on the Horn of Africa as a case study, addressing peace, security and developmental policies in the region while reflecting on the need to strategically redefine EU and US relations with the continent as a whole. The conference served as a platform to gather recommendations for the EU and US in these fields.
